Whilst Charles Morgan has been reviewing some of the world’s most scrumptious, and highly priced, classics for our good chums at Carfection, the MotorPunk massive has been keepin’ it real, looking at motors that are currently pretty affordable, but look set to rapidly appreciate over the next few years.

We wanted to look at models that the ordinary chap-in-the-street could afford to fix, run and maintain on an a real world budget; or ideally, not have to crack open the tool box at all! We therefore agreed that the perfect classic needed to be affordable, reliable and able to keep up with modern traffic. Further down the wish list we ideally wanted something ‘blue chip’ with a whiff of sophistication; something that is currently under-appreciated perhaps; and if it could have a bit of motorsport pedigree too, then that would just be the cherry on the Bakewell.

In short, and without wishing to brag, I think we nailed this one. What was even more fortuitous was that a good mate of MotorPunk just happened to have one that he was happy to loan us for the weekend so we could make this little video. Here’s the result:
