Followers of motorsports look ahead to a fascinating year with some mouth-watering fixtures included on the calendar. The world of Formula 1 got a lot more exciting as age finally caught up with British driver Lewis Hamilton, and the Englishman released his grip on the sport. There’s also been plenty to keep followers of rally, MotoGP, speedway, and world superbikes entertained. But those motorsports can’t compete with NASCAR, with fans enjoying the most competitive season in years.

An eagerly anticipated campaign got underway with the 66th edition of the globally popular Daytona 500, the first points race of the year. The season runs from February to November when the curtain falls following the engrossing NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway. We’re now in the thick of the fixture list, but we’re no closer to finding a champion than we were when the drivers lined up in Florida back in February.

No driver has been able to secure an extended run of results, meaning the NASCAR Cup Series standings are wide open. Interestingly, the first three names in the league at present have yet to win a race, moving into a handy position after picking up valuable points rather than victories. The competitiveness of the season has sports fans in a frenzy as they try to predict the future and call the 2024 NASCAR champion.

Truex holds the advantage

He’s yet to get off the mark and claim a first race win of the season, but that isn’t holding Martin Truex back as he moves into a dominant position at the head of the NASCAR leaderboard. The 43-year-old from New Jersey leads the way at the time of writing, with the table showing he has already collected 220 championship points, just five more than Ty Gibbs. Ryan Blaney is back in third place with 211 points. That will all change between now and the final race on the calendar.

With little between the leading names in the frame, the world’s most popular sportsbooks offer odds on the outcome. NASCAR fans can predict the winner of the next race or look ahead and call the outright champion, enjoying a season-long interest. Traders working in Las Vegas and across the sportsbook industry have Kyle Larson as their favorite to finish on top at the final count, although that stance is far from convincing.

Larson hasn’t started the 2024 season the way he had hoped, and he’s currently in fifth place. That’s far from ideal for one of the biggest names in motorsports, but it’s far too early in the season to panic. Unlike the four drivers ranked above him in the Cup Series leaderboard, Larson has won a race, showing he’s always dangerous. He’s an experienced driver who understands what it takes to win races and championships. Will he turn the tide and prevail later this year? It would be foolish to write him off.

As we enjoy a brief break in play before the next race from the NASCAR season, we wanted to remind readers of Larson’s quality. Keep pace as we reflect on some of the most notable wins of Larson’s career to date. He’s enjoyed some fantastic results, but winning the Cup Series this year would be the pick of the bunch.

Auto Club Speedway

Kyle Larson delivered a masterclass in speed and precision at Auto Club Speedway, showcasing his undeniable talent in one of NASCAR’s most thrilling races. From the moment the green flag dropped, Larson asserted his dominance, leading a staggering 110 laps of the 202-lap event.

Despite facing challenges from seasoned veterans and rising stars alike, Larson maintained his composure and exhibited flawless execution behind the wheel. As the checkered flag waved, Larson crossed the finish line in first place, clinching his second career Cup Series victory in commanding fashion.

The win showcased Larson’s ability to thrive on intermediate tracks and confirmed his status as a legitimate championship contender in NASCAR’s highly competitive world.

Michigan International Speedway

Kyle found himself locked in a thrilling battle for supremacy at Michigan International Speedway, where he would go on to produce one of the most dramatic finishes in recent NASCAR memory. As the laps wound down, Larson engaged in a fierce duel with fellow competitor Chase Elliott, trading paint and position in a heart-stopping display of skill and determination.

With victory hanging in the balance, Larson made a daring move on the final lap, executing a bold pass on Elliott to seize the lead and secure a breathtaking win by a mere 0.993 seconds. The victory catapulted Larson into the limelight but also underscored his knack for delivering clutch performances when it matters most, cementing his reputation as one of NASCAR’s most exciting talents.

Pure Michigan 400

Kyle Larson returns to Michigan International Speedway, this time aiming to replicate his previous success and etch his name further into NASCAR lore. In a race impacted by the weather and unpredictable conditions, Larson once again showcased his prowess behind the wheel, navigating the treacherous track with poise and precision.

Despite stiff competition from Martin Truex Jr. and Erik Jones, Larson remained undaunted. He led a race-high 96 laps en route to a dominant victory. The win was Larson’s third of the season, solidifying his status as a force on the high-speed ovals of the Cup Series circuit.

Dover International Speedway

Following a tumultuous period in his career, Kyle Larson returned to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021 with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. In May of that year, Larson found himself in contention for victory once again, this time at the challenging Dover International Speedway.

Despite facing adversity and intense pressure from his competitors, Larson rose to the occasion, showcasing his resilience and unwavering resolve on the demanding concrete oval. With a flawless display of driving skill and strategy, Larson seized control of the race in the closing stages, holding off a late charge from Chase Elliott to claim a hard-fought victory.

The result marked Larson’s triumphant return to the winner’s circle but also signaled his resurgence as one of NASCAR’s elite talents, earning him widespread acclaim and admiration from fans and peers alike.
