Product placement has always been part of the James Bond franchise, and with filming budgets rumoured to have nudged $250 million on No Time to Die, Broccoli’s people are probably only to happy to take the ad men’s money. No less than four Astons are set to appear in the new Bond movie, as well as glimpses of Omega’s new Seamaster 300M 007 Edition, a rack of Tom Ford suits and a Triumph Bonneville 1200 Scrambler.

However, Floris No.89 hasn’t been plugged in 007’s big screen outings by clumsy product placement. Instead this is the fragrance only fleetingly mentioned as Bond’s scent of choice by Fleming in his novels (Dr. No, Diamonds are Forever and in Moonraker where “Floris provides the soaps and lotions in the lavatories and bedrooms”). Fleming himself was a regular at the flagship store in Jermyn Street, in the elegant quarter of London’s St. James’s – well worth a potter about if you’ve got ten minutes to kill in The Big Smoke.

Floris was founded in 1730 by Juan Famenias Floris, who arrived in England from his native island of Menorca to seek his fortune. Shortly after his arrival, in 1730, he secured premises and initially set up business as a barber and comb-maker, however, he soon missed the aromas of his Mediterranean youth which he lovingly recreated in No.89, named in honour the first store’s address.

For £50 for 100ml, Floris London No.89 Aftershave is available from Amazon UK. Proudly displaying a royal warrant, as you can see on the bottle below, it’s also a personal favourite of fellow Aston fan, HRH Prince Charles.

We have already done a thing on Dents the glove makers. Everything else with the Q Branch stamp of approval is usually beyond my modest means I’m afraid.
