Welcome to the write-up for February’s sprint event at Curborough, a little later than planned thanks to me being stuck up a mountain abroad for a bit (don’t ask). I’d like to thanks Jay Rahman for persevering in the rain to get these great pics of the track action and to Dan Morris for his tireless effort in running these events. So, what happened?

MX-5s are the perfect track toy and it was inevitable that this month we saw two more join the fun, Alex Wood in a silver Mk1 MX5 and Richard Scott in the red car. We also saw Ian Cowley in his silver S2 Lotus Exige and Mark Wakeman in his white S2 Lotus Exige. Ian recorded a 1’42.4, Mark a 1’40.6. I hope they’ll spend a bit more time with us next month, the cars look great.

Ben Williams was back, last month he was in a 106 bought the night before the event after his Fiesta croaked, this month he was in a Clio 172  bought the night before the event after the 106 expired. Surely this dedication to buying (and breaking) cheap hatchbacks makes him a contender for “hero of the series”, an award which also means he gets a weekend with a Morgan 3 wheeler as a prize.

There’s also a gong (and weekend with a Caterham) for the most improved driver over the season. If you’ve not signed up yet then click here for info. It’s £50 to sign up for the championship for the season and £60 per event you attend. If you want to know what happened at January’s event you can click this.

Another car of note this month is Dave M’s Turbo charged Micra which set a time of 1’49.9. We need to know more about this car! It was great to see Nigel B’s Morgan 4/4  which did a 1’59.0. Another classic Brit was Daniel C’s cool Triumph Spitfire – look at the camber on those wheels! Paul’s mk2 Escort was back after some carb tweakery and it’s always good to see a Mini on track, this one is Chris and Fiona’s, doing a handy 1’57.7 and  2’08.4 respectively. There is a category for all types here but thanks to the rain no-one got close to the overall track record for road-legal cars of Daniel French in his Caterham R500 – a blistering 1’20.3.

Here’s hoping for sunshine next time! There are a few places open for March’s event on 19/03/15 at Curborough, please contact Dan on 07402 728337 if you’d like more info on how to join the championship or just to join us for some time on track. We hope to see you there!
